The Lay Ministry Initiative: executive brief
Our traditional institutional churches are all facing similar problems. Whatever their form of governance there are pressures from within. They’re all facing internal difficulties as parts of their denomination prefer cultural relevance rather than biblical authority. There are pressures from without, e.g. the impact of 24/7 mass media overwhelms the influence of the one and a half hour church service one a week. Members of our Churches are absorbing cultural attitudes that are in conflict with God’s will as revealed in the Bible.
Many members of our congregations are not sufficiently equipped to live with integrity in their community and workplace without being easily compromised.
